Hospital Effluent Treatment Plant – The primary goal of the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) is to eliminate as much organic matter and suspended solids as possible before the waste water is released back into the environment or used for other medical functions. In essence, hospital effluent treatment comprises handling waste water and other liquid wastes, such as water used for cleaning cars, floors, or other liquid effluent that has been scrubbed. The removal of large numbers of organic compounds, debris, dirt, grit, pollution, poisonous, non-toxic molecules, and polymers, among other things, from industrial effluent is done using effluent treatment plants (ETPs).

The Central Pollution Control Board’s (CPCB) order to build a separate Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP) for every hospital with 100 beds or more has sparked controversy in both public and private hospitals. Many are arguing that it is impractical to treat sewage in a hospital in a city like Mumbai, which is already severely space-constrained.

In essence, hospital effluent treatment comprises handling waste water and other liquid wastes, such as water used for cleaning cars, floors, or other liquid effluent that has been scrubbed. According to the CPCB, hospital sewage that has been contaminated is susceptible to three types of contamination: bacterial, radioactive, and chemical wastes. In order to prevent mixing with regular municipal waste, the sewage must be cleaned at the source.
