A dental material with biocompatibility to oral and dental tissues is mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA). MTA was created for dental root restoration in endodontic therapy and is composed of radiopaque commercial Portland cement and bismuth oxide powder. MTA is used for pulp capping, internal root resorption treatment, generating apical plugs during apexification, and healing root perforations during root canal therapy. This article’s goal is to examine MTA characteristics from a therapeutic standpoint, especially in comparison to other biomaterials. This review article will assess all the clinical information pertaining to this dental material. 19 papers where the MTA clinical characteristics could be recorded were identified by data from the examination of the literature over the previous ten years.

Dental trauma is an unpredictable incident that is typically difficult for medical professionals to handle. Therefore, the dentist must be ready to help a patient who has experienced dental trauma. To enhance the prognosis of the trauma itself, early intervention is frequently essential. Sealing dentinal tubules should be the main goal in cases with coronal fractures with exposed dentine. Because dentinal tubules are vast and numerous, especially in young patients, even a small area of exposed dentin provides an ideal environment for a lot of plaque bacteria and their byproducts.

Using a Skini Syringe and Endo-Eze canula (Ultradent/Clinical Research Dental), a light-cured glass ionomer (Fuji 2 LC GC America, Alsip, IL) is carefully injected over the MTA site to protect it while it sets.

Does Biodentine outperform MTA?
The release of calcium and silicon ions from biodentine, which is observed to be related with high pH (12), promotes mineralization and creates a “mineral infiltration zone” at the dentin-cement contact, improving the seal. According to Caron G et al., Biodentine has better sealing qualities than MTA [24].
