Pressure ulcers, venous ulcers, necrotic wounds, burns, and wounds that are producing liquid can all be treated using hydrocolloid dressings. Dressings made of hydrocolloid material can be worn for up to a week. If healthy skin is not damaged, frequent dressing changes are less disruptive to the wound bed. Many patients, and even some doctors, still hold the false belief that wounds must be exposed to the air in order to heal effectively

Plain Film Dressing  – These dressings are self-adhesive, non-breathable, and tape-free. Examples of hydrocolloid dressings include Nu-Derm; Tegasorb; Duoderm Signal® (ConvaTec); (and Systagenix). Water is a component in hydrogel dressings, however, the amount varies depending on the dressing. Hydrocolloid dressings offer an environment that is moist and insulating, protecting uninfected wounds while allowing the body’s natural enzymes to aid in wound healing. These dressings stand out since they are simple to use and don’t need to be changed as frequently as some other wound dressings.
