PREPGAUGE (SET OF 4 GAUGES)
PREPGAUGE (SET OF 4 GAUGES) -Although clinicians are aware of the ideal level of clearance, it can frequently be challenging to accurately measure this intraorally. Occlusal clearance is often assessed by visual examination of the “space” between opposing teeth in the maximal intercuspal position (MIP). Due to dentists’ propensity for myopia when assessing their preparations and the cuspal slopes of teeth, which can block the view of the lingual/palatal reduction achieved, this can be incredibly subjective. Utilizing “PrepGauge” from MIK Dental is a straightforward yet efficient solution to this issue
These silicone gauges have a boomerang form and are autoclavable. They come in 4 different thicknesses—1 mm, 1.5 mm, 2 mm, and 3.5 mm—and are colour marked for quick identification. Each gauge has a unique signal: Cusps for monolithic metal and zirconia preparations, porcelain fused to zirconia (PFZ), lithium disilicate (LiDiSi), and 1 mm gauge (yellow).
Functional cusps for LiDiSi, PFZ, monolithic metal, and monolithic zirconia preparations
in 1.5 mm gauge (blue). Cusps for PFM preparations that don’t work.
Functional cusps for PFM preparations in 2 mm gauge (green).
3.5 mm gauge (Pink): PFM reductions including opposing teeth on the maxilla and mandible.
technique for use of PREPGAUGE (SET OF 4 GAUGES)
The gauges have a special form that makes it simple to fit them between all teeth. Their broader arm (10 mm wide) is intended for use with molar teeth, whereas their narrower arm (7 mm wide) is made for use with teeth that have a smaller diameter. For mandibular anterior teeth with the smallest mesiodistal breadth, the narrow arm’s rounded end (1 mm wide) can be used. Once the desired amount of reduction has been achieved, the patient is asked to bite onto the corresponding PrepGauge. The clinician should then try to pull the gauge through the buccal aspect (feeler gauge concept).
There is one of the three options below:
With little resistance, the gauge can be removed through the buccal aspect.
Clinical finding: The preparation is sufficient given the PrepGauge employed.
